Dugong & Environment

The Recycle Dalat team loves flowers. One of the most unique flowering plants are seagrass, who can live submerged in seawater their entire lives. Unfortunately, these ocean dwellers are facing the same threat of deforestation (though they are not really trees) as their terrestrial counterparts.
Mikaela Clarissa, the Founder and Executive Director for Tamang Dugong Indonesia
To share with our Green Warriors about seagrass and the majestic dugong who feeds on them, we invited Mikaela Clarissa, the Founder and Executive Director for Tamang Dugong.id Indonesia and a close friend of Recycle Dalat. Tamang Dugong Indonesia is a non-profit organization focused on dugong and seagrass conservation in Indonesia. Mika shared her love for dugong to our participants and passed down her deep experience in the field of conservation and communication design.
Her initiative focused on dugong and seagrass conservation in Indonesia.
One quote Mika shared that resonated deeply with everyone was “Out of sight, out of mind”. Many amazing plants and animals exist out there that sustain our lives, hidden deep within forests and deep under water. Yet, we care for them for we can’t see them. The same can be said for waste. Once out of our homes, these waste do not exist in our minds. Yet, these wastes will continue to plague others or even come back to hurt us. This highlights the importance of raising awareness about environmental issues, to remind everyone that all of us have to play our part to protect the world. Let us all do our part to protect our environment.
